Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

January 2023

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Aimed at raising awareness about the significant impact of cancer on children and their families globally. Cancer ranks among the top causes of death in children and adolescents worldwide.

Lowering the child's risk of getting cancer:

  • Encourage your children to follow healthy habits such as consuming a nutritious diet, including fruits and vegetables.
  • Quit smoking and maintain a smoke-free environment for your children.
  • Help your child maintain a healthy weight by providing healthy meals and snacks.
  • Protect your child’s skin by using appropriate sun protection and preventing UV radiation exposure.
  • Encourage your children to engage in regular physical activity.

Early diagnosis comprises three elements:

  • Recognizing cancer symptoms and understanding the importance of seeking medical advice for unusual findings
  • Access to clinical evaluation and diagnostic services
  • Prompt referral for treatment

Identifying cancer early enhances treatment effectiveness and increases the chances for successful treatment, so make sure to get frequent health checkups and to always consult with your doctor.
